Prayer points

Start your prayers with generous thanksgiving, create a gratitude list with your child and celebrate God’s faithfulness.

  1. Father, thank you for helping us read our bibles during the holiday. As we return to school routine, help us to be consistent with bible study and to do what the word of God says in Jesus name. “Your word is a lamp for my feet,  a light on my path. Ps 119:105

      2) Father, we pray that you we will always be of good character at home, at school and everywhere we go. Father, help us to choose friends wisely and never bow to negative peer influence in Jesus name. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. Ps 1:1-3.

      3) Father, we pray that you grant us wisdom for excellent performance this session. We ask for outstanding success for those writing the 11+ this year in Jesus name. “And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. Deu 28:13

      4) Father, thank you for taking away all sicknesses by your stripes. We pray against any form of sickness, physical or emotional. We pray against any national disease outbreaks in Jesus name. “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Is 53:3

      5) Father, we ask that you bless us and our parents abundantly; we pray for financial open doors in Jesus name. “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phi 4:19

“I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron.3 I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places,That you may know that I, the Lord,Who call you by your name,Am the God of Israel. Is 45:2-3

      6) Father, we pray that you will keep us from all evil during the day and night in Jesus name. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Ps 91:1

      7) Father, we pray that by your mercies you will bring peace to all nations. “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. IIThess 3:16

      Preparation tips:

I’m sure you have prepared back to school items. 🎒👟🧦✏🖍⏰

      📢Don’t leave out other preparations!

✅ Have you set goals for the new session?

📌you can refer to last school report to guide academic goals.
📌identify areas for improvement (e.g subjects, friendship, balanced diet, punctuality, home learning) and agree on practical solutions.

✅ Have you adjusted sleep and wake up pattern to allow enough rest and time for devotion before leaving home?
♦️Each child needs a scheduled time for reading the bible, praying and writing in their journal (You can still book a one to one chat if you haven’t established a personal space and time or you are struggling with consistency).

♦️Pls refer to the feedback you received after the one to one session and support your child to work towards achieving the goals we set together.

✅ Do you have to readjust your family bible time to fit in with school routine?

RGC platform will continue to share a guide fortnightly which you can use to facilitate your discussions. Previous notes are still available here

      ♦️Some practical tips:
Personal devotion: Join each child occasionally and read the bible with them/answer their questions

Family bible time: Get the children involved, make the session interactive with bible craft/colouring for younger children or role play. You can record your FBT sessions and watch together later, award certificates (hand made or download online) or use their bible craft/colouring as your screen saver on your device. I am sure they will love it and be encouraged to do more.

🙏May the Holy Spirit (the helper) help us as we commit to doing our part in Jesus name.

Please share your ideas with other families- leave a comment below.

        Serve the Lord

•Parable of the talents-Try to re-enact the story with your family

        Lessons learnt?

        •  God gives talents according to ability so don’t say you can’t do it

        •  God has given talents to everyone (e.g music, creativity, writing, leadership etc)

        •  The person who made 5 more talents had proven that he could manage greater responsibility so the extra one was given to him

        •  If the extra was given to the servant who made 2 more talents, he may not be able to manage it well

        •  God can give same talent to different people but each person is still unique

        •  God is looking for children who will make use of their talents.

        •  Are you willing to be one of them?

        What can I do?

During your ‘Jesus and me time’, write down those things you are good at doing and ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to improve on them Zech 4:6

#Everyone has been given talent(s), I have mine. I will identify it and make use of it for God’s glory in Jesus name.

No one is too young to hear from the Lord
Ask questions when you are confused e.g school work, bible verse
You don’t have to be friends with everyone
Do what is right even when it means being lonely on the playground
If you hear a voice, it may be the Holy Spirit

        Live the word 003

What is diligence? Being careful, steady, and putting in energetic efforts

•Think about what you read-how does it apply to me? Is there anything I need to do? Write in your journal lessons learnt, what you would like to improve on? do you have questions?

•Pray for God’s help with the things you noted, pray about your day, ask for God’s blessings on you and pray for others-family, friends

Memory Verse: Matt 7 vs 7

        Know the Lord 002

Notes from RGC online bible club:

Excellence (Part 1): Daniel story Dan 1 vs 8

Daniel refused to defile himself with the King’s meat. (Defile means spoil or damage).

Daniel knew his God and did exploits. Dan 11 vs 32b

Exploit means to make full use of resources (time, energy, money) available to you.

What does this mean to you?

Avoid anything that would spoil your character/purity like Daniel did. For example, violent cartoons or games; fighting on the play ground or use of abusive words either face to face/online.

Daniel was excellent because he used resources available to him including time, energy, wisdom, Holy Spirit.

How does this apply to you?

Aim for excellence in whatever you do-school work, home learning, house chores, sports, bible study etc.

Use resources available to you including time, energy, creative mind, dictionary.

Ask questions from your parents/care givers, partner with the Holy Spirit.

        ***Be your best, be excellent!

        Love the Lord 003

Notes from RGC online bible club:

        Love the Lord-Worship

        What is worship?

Worship means honouring God. It is an act of love. It is an action to demonstrate our love for God.

How do we worship (show our love for God)?

        1. In Spirit and in truth Jn 4 vs 24
        2. In action and in truth I Jn 3 vs 18
        3. With all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. Matt 22 vs 37

Activity 1: Get two cotton wool balls. Spray a little perfume on one and leave the other plain. Try to perceive the odour from each of the balls, which do you prefer?

Our worship should be as instructed in the bible verses above so that it rises to God as a sweet smelling aroma.

        Read the Word 002

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night Josh 1:8a.

Mothers, ensure you fill your child’s heart with God’s word otherwise, something else will fill their heart.

How to help your child meditate on the word:
Infant (<1 year): Play spiritual songs, fill the atmosphere around them with God’s presence. They will move, clap and dance along. This will help prepare them for the next stage.

Toddler (1-3 years): Read to them a few words from the bible. As soon as they can say a few words, teach them to repeat some words after you regularly. For instance, Praise the Lord! Ps 150:1a; The Lord is my shepherd Ps 23:1a; I love God with all my heart Matt 22:37a

School age children (<12 yrs): When your child starts to read story books on their own, encourage them to read bible verses and memorize some, they will find it useful when making choices daily. For example, on the playground when asked to join in making jest of another child, he/she will remember ‘Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked’ Ps 1: 1a

Teenagers: At this stage, your child should spend more time with God quietly reading the bible, thinking about it and asking questions. Encourage them to write down lessons learnt, discuss it with them and answer their questions by the help of the Holy Spirit.

NOTE: The Word of God is spirit and life (Jn 6:63); it is living and active (Heb 4:12). As children speak these words, they believe it, build their faith and it works in their lives in all areas.

        Some personalized declarations:

Health: By His stripes, I was healed Is 53 vs 5

Learning: I am the head and not the tail Deut 28 vs 13

Godly living: I am holy, for God is holy 1Pet 1 vs 16

I will obey my parents in the lord, for this is the right thing to do Eph 6 vs 1

(For a toddler, you can make it a call and response: mum say the first few words and let your child respond with the next few words)

Remember consistency is KEY. May God grant you wisdom and strengthen you in Jesus name.

        Gal 5 vs 22-23

        Love the Lord 002

Prayer is a way of talking to God and building friendship with him. The quality of this relationship depends on the time and commitment invested into it. It is possible that during school session students are not able to spend enough time praying and reading their bibles as they should, so why don’t you try to make up for any lapses by including Jesus in your plans this summer.

Older children- spend more time reading the bible and thinking about what you have read and how it applies to you. This should be preceded by prayer and end with prayer too (click here to request books that can help you talk to God better).

Younger children- Make use of recycled papers and cardboards for bible craft activities (example above). This is fun and helps to picture the bible story or lesson. It is even more fun if a child’s care giver can be part of this activity. I suggest you visit you-tube for bible craft ideas.

        Love the Lord 001

Jesus loves the children of the world

God our Father loves us so much that he gave his only begotten son (John 3 vs 16) to reconcile us to him.

How can you show that you love him? The answer is simple- If you love me, keep my commandments John 14 vs 15.

Love and obedience are two sides of a coin (Steve Farrar). You can’t pick one side and leave the other. This implies that you cannot claim to love God and not obey his commandments. Read the word to know God’s commandments (read the previous post about how to read the bible again).

Talk to God through prayers, this is another way of showing that you love the Lord. There are some books to help you learn how to talk to God like you talk to your best friends (click here to request a book at no cost ).

        Read The Word 001

Does your child attend Sunday school regularly? You have a role to play still.
If your child does not attend Sunday school, you must take on the responsibility to teach your child God’s word.

        What can I do?
        1) Ensure your child has a complete (Genesis -Revelation) children bible produced with children in mind: colourful with added features to make bible reading more interesting and enhance understanding. Even toddlers have a version made just for them.

        2) Ensure your child has writing materials: For toddlers, paper for scribbling and painting is fine. For older children, an attractive journal will be helpful to note memory verses, lessons learnt as they answer the question ‘how does this story or bible verse apply to me’

        NOTE:
*Encourage your child to pray for understanding before reading, and pray for grace to do what the word says after reading the bible. This is what makes the difference between listening to or watching a bible story and actually living a life transformed by the word.
*It is a gradual process, consistency is the key
*As a mother/care giver, you need to be consistent with your bible study and prayer too. Children usually observe and follow what they see.
*Leave a message in the chat box on the contact page if you would like to know more about bible/ bible resources, printable downloads, bible arts and crafts.

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

        Proverbs 22 vs 6

        Know The Lord 001

The bible is a book written by the inspiration of God 2nd Tim 3 vs 16. It gives us revelation of the knowledge of God and is filled with wisdom for daily living. However, there are books written by Christian authors to help unpack the scriptures and explain how it applies to children. As the children read the bible alongside these books, they will gain a greater depth of knowledge about the living God through colourful illustration, practical examples and reflections.

To facilitate this, you are encouraged to subscribe to the read-with-me Godly children project. Leave a message in the chat box on the contact page, send your delivery address and age of your child/children to drtosinaroyewun@gmail.com. An age appropriate book will be delivered to you at no cost by God’s grace.
