We have been considering the key elements in the book of Josh 1:9. In this post, we will discuss another essential requirement for taking territories-‘Do not fear.’

What is fear? “Fear is an unpleasant emotion or thought caused by threat of danger or harm that is happening or might happen.”
How can we overcome fear?
- The love of God: Perfect love which comes from God cast away all fears. 1Jn 4:18. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and saviour, and believe that His love for us (through His blood) has paid the price for our sin and its consequences, then we overcome fear now and fear about our eternity.
Activity 1: Discuss the causes of fear or anxiety in your home at the moment (may be as an individual or as a family).
e.g fear of punishment, fear of failure in career or parenting.
How does love help to overcome fear?
1a)Our response to the love of God is to accept it with thanksgiving and share the love of God with others within our household and outside home.
1b) Build your trust in God through personal relationship with Him. You will know more about His unfailing love and fear will have no place in your heart. Whenever you are faced with a situation or thought that brings fear, meditate on the love of the father.
Encourage everyone to keep a journal about their knowledge of God’s love and their experience of it. You can always go back to it when necessary as a reminder and to build your faith.
Activity 2: Discuss the personal relationship of each family member/your family altar, and renew your commitment. You can use a chart to help your children build consistency. You can schedule a family, if you see the need for thorough re-appraisal after this family bible time.
- Faith in God
Case study-Three Hebrew boys Dan 3
Activity 3:Read the story and discuss the faith of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Recount as a family instances when you have overcome fear by your faith in God and celebrate those victories again.
Your celebration over previous victories is your weapon to overcoming any current fearful situation and gaining more territories.
Family circle:
Pray about any current situation that is causing fear or anxiety as an individual or as a family. (For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power (courage and strength)…………. 2nd Tim 1:7
